Yes it was a great adventure.
250km, over 4000m of climbing and no main roads. Just beautiful scenery and good company.
In a bit more detail we rode:
Friday – 76 Km, mostly dirt and elevation gain of 150m. We started from Allen’s place in ALISON. We rode to Bulahdelah via the lovely village of Stroud via Flat Tops, Raglan, Black Camp Rd, and Washpool rd. We then proceed to Bulahdelah via forest fire access roads including the aptly named Purgatory Rd. Distance 75kms.
We stayed the night in a house boat and the first thing we did was to go for a swim, fantastic? Dinner was at the pub, food was alright and a couple of beers went down very quickly.
Saturday – rode to Gloucester via Back Rd and Waukivory Rd 68 Km, 18kms of unsealed and elevation gain of 1250m. This included the fastest downhill section on very soft terrain coming down Koolonock Rd followed by a nice 5Km climb. The balance of the days ride was a nice undulating ride mainly along Waukivory road to Gloucester. Accommodation was at the caravan park, not expensive with all you need especially a hot shower. Dinner and a couple of drinks at the round-about pub who have a pretty good bistro.
Sunday – after breakfast at Roadies, a licensed cafe on the main drag we rode the dirt roads via Berrico Creek Rd, Avon Valley Rd, Berrico Rd, Cherry Tree Rd, Moores Rd, Monkarai Rd and then back to Alison – 73kms – 53kms of unsealed.
The plan was to start each day at 8:30 however it was always about 9 before we started pedalling.
We also had a support vehicle to carry all of our gear, which was really great.
Thanks very much Allen Schrimpton for doing all the organising.
